Arizona Day Seven/ It's good to be home!
Yesterday was a really long day. I slept in till about 11am Pacific time. I didn't really do much until it was time to get dressed for the wedding. My cousin Danny's wedding was held at this resort called, "Sanctuary". Apparently it just got named the #1 resort in the United States. The wedding was held outside on the lawn. It was so beautiful! It was a Jewish wedding. The weather was excellent! The ceremony itself wasn't very long, but the reception seemed to go on forever. They even had an hour for cocktails! I probably would have liked that if I actually drank alcoholic beverages. I have indeed now a huge love for Perrier. It's just carbonated water, but it seriously kicks butt! Oh, here's the menu for the reception: First Course: Warm Pear Salad on Arizona Greens Point Reyes Blue Cheese, Spiced Walnuts, Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette. Sorbet Intermezzo. (The Pear Salad was awesome and the Sorbet tasted like homemade. It was great!) Entree: Prime Grilled Fillet of Beef with Wild Mushroom Demi-Glace, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Fire Roasted Asparagus. (There was a choice of Beef or Chilean Sea Bass.) Fresh Baked Rolls and Butter. Dessert: Wedding Cake, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Assorted Cookies, Elegant Coffee Service with Sugar sticks, Chocolate Shavings, Freshly whipped cream.
My steak looked like it was cooked well done from the outside. It was actually cooked RARE! I always eat steak as Well Done or Medium Well. I do not like to see my steak looking red and bloody. I ate the steak without looking at it. It actually was very tender and I liked it. At least now I know that I can eat Rare steaks as long as I don't actually look at it. We stayed at the wedding until about 10pm Pacific time. As soon as we got back to the hotel/resort room, I finished my last minute packing. We did not go to sleep. Our flight was at 5:30am Pacific Time. We needed to be at the airport around 3:30am to return our rental car and to get through security on time. We got to the car rental place around 4am and had to take a shuttle to the airport. (The car rental place is about 10 minutes from the airport). Varqa had a jar of salsa in one of the carry-on bags and they wouldn't let him take it on the plane. Our flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Dallas Fort Worth took an hour and a half on American Airlines. Poor Ann and Varqa were cramped on the plane. They had no leg room whatsoever. We were sitting towards the back of the plane.
Dallas Fort Worth Airport is freaking huge! We had to take 3 carts on 3 different levels just to get to gate D31. At one point part of the airport goes over the freeway. (They have a train that'll shuttle you to the correct terminal.) We had maybe about a half hour before we started boarding for our flight to RDU. I bought us each a bottle of water to drink on the plane. Luckily, they have moved us to the first row behind First Class and we had tons of leg room. That flight lasted about 2 hours. We actually arrived a half hour early. Adib picked us up and we went to my parents' apartment. (The weather in Phoenix all week had been in the mid 80's with a light breeze and no humidity and then I come home to 52 degree weather with fog and light rain.) My and Varqa's car was there. We were all starving. Luckily, Dad had cooked spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. After stuffing myself, I gave out the gifts I had bought for my family members. They all liked their gifts. I then drove home. I was too tired to carry my bag up the stairs. I left it in the trunk and asked Adib to bring it up when he got home. Vita was thrilled to see me! She would not leave my room for the first hour I was home. I was so exhausted that I just decided to go right to sleep. I slept from 5pm to 8am. I was really really tired. I woke up to Vita sleeping on the bed with me.
I'm glad I went on this trip. I got to meet a lot of relatives I had just only heard about. Several of them are planning to come here for Varqa and Ann's wedding reception in April. Well, I need to get organized. Later.
