I do not Grok!
Dad and I went to the hockey game Friday night. The Canes were pretty much evenly matched in the first period against Toronto, but then, in the 2nd period the Officiating became incredibly biased in favor of Toronto. There were so many blatant penalties against Toronto that the refs did not call. The Canes aren't doing too well this year. I've been to 3 games so far and they have lost each one.
I started reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. This is the same author who wrote "Starship Troopers" and many many other Sci-fi books. The TV mini-series "Red Planet" was also by Robert A. Heinlein. On the cover of Stranger in a Strange Land it says, "The Most Famous Science Fiction Novel Ever Written". Of course, I bought this book to see whether or not it was really that good. I am 3/4's of the way through the book, and I love it! It is an awesome book. What amazes me even more is that the copyright date for this book is 1961. This book reads like a modern novel. The basic concept of this book is that this human Valentine Michael Smith was born on Mars and was raised by Martians to think, act, and talk like a Martian. He is then brought to Earth and has to learn to think and speak and act like a human. Some concepts and ideas of Mars don't have a translation in English and vice versa. Oh, he's also heir apparent to several large fortunes and many people want to be able to control him in order to get his money. Of course, he has no concept of what money is and what it is used for. My favorite word right now is the Martian word, "Grok" which means a great many things but in many uses it means "to understand". Grok that?
Work yesterday was normal. I managed to do some reading. I am almost done with "Mistral's Kiss," the latest book in the Merry Gentry series. The book is so short. I think it's just a filler until the next book.
There are two football games on network today. Not only do I have a halftime rollover, I also have a GSK rollover. Ugh!
